"the love of learning"
It was precisely because of this love, that Socrates took hemlock and denied the world of a great mind; for the sake of humanity, Bruno was burned at the stake-pushed down to the level of heretics and so-called witches. It has been said that "good and evil are like black and white strings twined together", no one can really deny the existence of either...
As life carries on, the difference between moral good and the choice to be good is blurred even as I choose to type. Life is full of choices; the choice to kill or to save, the choice to hurt or to soothe, the choice to scorn or to comfort. Choices. So full of them. The time spent carrying out each day thinking of doing only the best is sadly becoming a chore. You feel like just getting over and done with the day; no more extra work or preparation...just get over with it.
When do we choose to do something, is it necessarily for the greater good? Are heroes merely human beings with a hankering for fame and cashing in on the fast-drying reservoir of humanity? These questions and more keep coming to me. Am I doing the best that I can? Am I just sustaining life by fulfilling the basic requirements or am I fulfilling its purpose by living each moment and loving each breath?
I've learnt to adapt slowly and I'm starting to enjoy this new journey but of course, life has its surprises. Shocking news is coming to me; what I imagined were calm pools of life were actually masks hiding the pain and blemish of hurt. Those whom I thought were pompous actually needed the greatest support because in that facade of arrogance, their cry for help was smothered. And I have neglected them...
I'm confused, I'm hurt, I'm upset. Yet in the midst of all these unfortunate incidents, I still have my new-found joy to celebrate. Everything is clamouring to be the central focal point of my life now...where do I turn? I think of listing out the pros and cons but sometimes when you think too much, you defeat the purpose. It's funny how when we say "I don't know", more often than not it's not because we're clueless, rather we're clueless as to how to choose and use the overload of information we have. We want tp be cautious and not hurt anybody by giving the wrong info. Sometimes, it's better to spill than to keep it in.
Hopefully this turmoil will pass. As Jesus waited for His cup to pass...everyone has their little crosses to bear. I only hope I can be there along the way to help you with your cross and not be the one who trods on your fingers and breaks your back with the whip.
